The Foundation: Purpose

The Provident Foundation, located in Chicago, is dedicated to preserving the Provident Hospital and Training School legacy. The mission of the Foundation is to perpetuate the history of Provident Hospital and the contributions of the founder, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. In conjunction with the Chicago Historical Society and the DuSable Museum, the Foundation collects and preserves archival and other materials from around the country that relate to the Provident Hospital and Training School.

The Foundation’s philanthropic agenda includes hosting an Annual Gala fundraising event in observance of the Provident Hospital and Training School. The Foundation presents lifetime achievement awards and Living Legacy Awards to individuals who have exemplified excellence in the field of medicine while unselfishly giving their time and resources to serve their communities. The Foundation also awards scholarships to hardworking students who are currently enrolled in medical and nursing schools and pursuing careers in the healthcare profession.

The Foundation is passionately committed to ensuring the future health of our community and to supporting those who serve communities that have traditionally been underserved.

Through the establishment of our Future Doctors-Future Nurses and Healthcare Professionals Clubs, the Foundation pledges that the future of our children will always remain our top priority. This is our way of insuring that more people of color are recruited into the healthcare professions.

The Foundation’s Medical Miracles traveling exhibit of historical photographs and artifacts is a meaningful educational experience for those who seek to learn more about Provident Hospital and the doctors, nurses, and others who contributed to its mission to provide quality healthcare for African Americans and underprivileged people in Chicago.

The Provident Foundation welcomes your support in helping us to reach our goals.
